"NRI"

I had been meaning to put down my thoughts on this whole issue of racial discrimination of Indians abroad for quite some time but this (goddamned) movie - dhan dhana dhan GOAL - I watched coupled with what happened in Kuala Lumpur recently stirred these thoughts much more.

Having seen and to a certain extent faced a fare share of this discrimination in the USofA which I am told is one of the better places, I really think there is a validity to the argument of global citizenship, of the fact that every man or woman should have equal rights. I, personally, would never discriminate based either on sex or colour or nationality for that matter. Talent, ability will prevail, in my opinion over above mentioned criterion.

But - now here is where things get complicated - I really think it is each individual's choice where he/she chooses to stay, work, make a life. All the choices are fraught with pros and cons. Racial discrimination IS, MOST CERTAINLY, a flip side associated with the choices made by millions. Is it fair to rest the entire responsibility on the shoulders of certain people who discriminate? Isn't it as much a function of choice made by those who are being discriminated?

I am not saying that these choices made are baseless. Those millions definitely have a reason enough to make them. Neither am I supporting this whole system of discrimination. But why cry foul in the names of ONLY those who choose to believe in the superiority of color? Why not introspect and realise that this should have been accounted for in the first place? Things, in today's world, ARE as they ARE. They may, why will, change over time but whom are you kidding by assuming this will happen in your life time??

Who is at fault??

Racial Discrimination is an age old phenomenon. Considering the socio-political scenario one can put easy blame on the social structures created by those who are in power.(Bramhins in India or Priests in Rome) But most often the very fact that ‘INDIVIDUAL MAKES A SOCIETY’ is forgotten…

What is a society…we are the society…and then comes the obvious question who are we? Who am I?

Some consciously search for the answer; some get lost in their routine life but still are moving ahead simply because they exist…

Now as every one is leading their life, they become part of the society…

And society made of these people forms its own STANDARDS!

STANDARDS of happiness…! Standards of morals, ethics, goodness, badness! – This is CONDITIONING!

Now every one involved in the process has MIND…

And MIND has desires…!

DESIRES give birth to sense of POWER…!

And the whole DISCRIMINATION process starts hear…some one will feel powerful only if some one is less powerful…!

Now again the question comes- what about Instinct?

Why to mention INSTINCT? Because in the west, people have experimented about COLOR discrimination with INFANTS- They showed the babies picture of WHITE woman and BLACK woman. And most of the times the babies would crawl to the picture of WHILE WOMAN…

This is a very interesting experiment. INSTINCT tells WHITE SKIN is better than BLACK…! GENETICS tells WHITE RACE is far better in terms of INTELLECT than BLACK RACE…!

But all these experiments were done through MIND!

MIND of those scientists…!

Also though babies are innocence personified, one has to UNDERSTAND, they have MIND of their OWN… and that MIND is as old as this universe!

Yes! MIND is an ageless phenomenon…!

And since the beginning of civilization THE SENSE of SUPERIORITY is imbibed, etched in MIND!

A baby when takes birth, only the body is new…not MIND…so every one takes birth with PRE CONDITIONED MIND set…as he or she grows only thing that happens is to accumulate more CONDITIONING…! And after a point BODY dies…! SOUL that is yet confused continues its journey with CONDITIONED MIND…!

So,
MIND is at fault…it always is! MIND creates THE SENSE of TIME and that gives birth to sense of POWER and once the POWER GAME starts DISCRIMINATION is inevitable…!

And then WHO ARE WE?

Neither BODY nor MIND…!

It is an experience and one has to walk on his own to experience it…!

So society as whole can never EVOLVE…it can only become more SOPHISTICATED…only INDIVIDUAL can EVOLVE and REACH…!

PS: some facts mentioned above are hard to digest…but MEDITATION is the key to understand them… there are two broad categories in which conscious wanders can be put into- BHAKTI and YOG. But irrespective of the path, no one can escape MEDITATION.
One can either choose (when the need will arise) a form told by ancestors or one can find his own form. The possibilities are endless…

err.. perhaps ..GOD ?..
for being so creative and choosing a million different colors to shade humans into ~!
:)
on a more serious note..id say..indians (and many other 'potential immigrants') are targets of racist behavior in the US.. recently though its been mostly politically motivated as the local folk feel 'ppl like us' steal their livelihoods...
sometimes i feel Indians are racist in our own freaking country !..it probably means nothing to most of us.. but think abt it.. someone out there watches those fancy advertisements with fair women and men getting everything they want in life !..all this just to sell a pink tube of 'fairness' cream.. and that idea of ''fairer is better'' gets into the mind of the average man.. which may be the key catalyst to mutate the racist gene..
